Thursdays, 3 to 4 pm
Reedwood Friends, In-person only

What is Simple Silence?
A Practice for Everyone
Inspired by Quaker communal silent worship, a centuries old practice that has brought peace to countless seekers, Simple Silence creates a welcoming space for anyone, regardless of faith or background.
No philosophy to learn. No religious commitment required. Just peaceful, shared silence that honors your own inner journey.
Why Silence? Why Now?
Constant Noise
We live submerged in notifications, traffic, conversations, and digital chatter. Our minds rarely find rest.
Science-backed Benefits
Research shows that periods of calm silence can reduce cortisol levels, improve focus, and enhance creative thinking and emotional well-being.
Reconnection
Silence helps us step off the treadmill and reconnect with ourselves, our breath, and the present moment.

The Power of Communal Silence
There’s something extraordinary that happens when people sit together in silence, a collective energy that deepens the experience beyond what solitary practice can offer.
Shared Energy
Sitting together in silence creates a unique sense of connection and collective calm; you’re alone but not lonely.
Deeper Relaxation
Studies suggest that shared silence supports deeper relaxation and mindfulness than solitary practice alone.
Safe Container
Simple Silence offers a non-judgmental environment where you can let go, knowing others are holding the space with you.
How Simple Silence Works
- Arrive when ready: Drop in anytime during the session window. There’s no “late”—come when it feels right for you.
- Settle into stillness: Find a comfortable seat. No talking, no phones, no agenda—just quiet presence with yourself and others.
- Stay as long as you need: Leave whenever you’re ready. Stay five minutes or the full hour—honor what serves you.
- Return again: Sessions held weekly in the Ong Chapel of our Quaker Meeting House: a simple, beautiful environment designed for contemplation.
